At what age should I register my child for Nursery?
You should put your child on the waiting list at Springfield when your child reaches the age of 2 and a half years old. To apply for a place in the Nursery school please speak to our Admissions Officer in the school office or call 020 8800 9007.
How do I apply for a place in Reception?
If you are in our nursery, it does not guarantee a place in Reception. All applications are to be made directly to the Hackney Education. You can contact Hackney Education on 0208 820 7000.
How much is a school lunch?
All children in Reception to Year 6 will receive Mayoral Universal Free School Meals for the academic year 23/24 and 24/25. It is still important you apply for income-based Free School Meals as you will then continue to receive FSM when the scheme ends. The school also receives extra funding to support our children via Free School Meals. To apply for Free School Meals, click here
Where can I purchase school uniform?
All uniform can be ordered through our official supplier Mapac. More information can be found here: School Uniform
What do I do if my child is ill?
Please call the school and leave a message to let us know as soon as possible. Sometimes we will ask to see medical evidence if we are concerned about the number of days your child has missed school. The school number is 020 8800 9007.
What do I do if I need to see a teacher?
Teachers are available for brief enquiries after school. If you need a longer appointment, please contact the class teacher via the school office on the number above or admin@springfield.hackney.sch.uk
Can my child walk to and from school alone?
No. Children must be accompanied by an adult. If you wish for an older sibling to collect them or drop them off, they must be over 16 years of age and must have identification. Children in Year 6 can walk home alone but only with written consent from the legal guardian.
Can my child cycle to school?
Yes, if they are accompanied by an adult (except Year 6 pupils). We have a bicycle/scooter stand available.
On my child’s birthday, can they bring in cakes/sweets for the class?
Sorry, no. We try to promote healthy living and eating. We do not permit sweets/chocolates/nut products or crisps in school. You may bring in fruit for the class.
What should I put in my child’s packed lunch?
We recommend a healthy packed lunch. It may include: a savoury sandwich/wrap/home-cooked dish, a cereal bar, fruit, salad, vegetables, yoghurt and water. Nut products, chocolate, sweets, crisps and fizzy drinks are not permitted. If you wish to discuss specific dietary needs then please email admin@springfield.hackney.sch.uk
What if my child cannot find their uniform?
Please ensure all items of clothing are fully labelled. We teach the children to look after their property. Please ask the school office to look in lost property or the class teacher/TA who will try to help find the item.
Can I try to find my child’s lost coat by checking his classroom?
Parents/children are not permitted into the school building before or after school unless they have an appointment, event and/or are accompanied by a staff member. Please tell the class teacher/TA and they will look for it at a convenient time.
Can I go to my child’s class assembly?
Yes please! Each class has a turn of an assembly. The dates and times are available on the school website and newsletters, or from your class teacher.
What is EYFS?
This stands for Early Years Foundation Stage. It includes Nursery and Reception classes.
What is KS1 and KS2?
Key Stage 1 (KS1) are years 1, and 2. Key Stage 2 (KS2) are years 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Is a PE kit compulsory?
Yes. This is for health and safety and hygiene reasons. Our PE kit consists of: white t-shirt, green shorts or tracksuit bottoms, socks and gym shoes or trainers/plimsolls. No jewellery or watches. Long hair must be tied back. Your child needs their PE kit once a week and this will be the same day every week.
What is the school policy on jewellery?
Earrings: small studs in ears are the only pieces of jewellery permitted. We do not take any responsibility for loss or damage.
Can my child bring a mobile phone in to school?
Mobile phones are not permitted in school.
How do I find out what my child is learning?
Half termly curriculum overviews are sent home at the beginning of that part of the term and year group topic information are available on the website.
Can I go on trips with my child and their class?
Often, yes. The class teacher will let all parents know if we need parent volunteers to attend any trips. If you should attend, please make sure you read and follow the Parent Guidelines for Trips.
